The composition of the population

  

In Azerbaijan 1897, 1926, 1939, 1959, 1970, 1979, 1989 and 1999 years the census of the population was carried out. Based on materials of the 1999 census 90.6% of the population of the republic is Azerbaijanis, 9.4% representatives of more than 80 nations. The share of Russians among them is 8%, Armenians - 1.5%, 2.2% - Lezgins, Avars - 0.6%. Rest of the population is Talysh, Jews, Kurds, Tatars, Ukrainians, Belorussians, Tats, Udins and other nations.
Lezgins, mainly are settled in Guba-Khachmaz economic region, Avars in Sheki-Zagatala economic region, Talyshs in Lankaran-Astara economic region, Kurds mainly in Nakhichevan  and other economic regions.
