RowingFor the first time in July and August of the year 1959, at the Oil Yacht-club located in the Seaside Boulevard the youth began to be involved in rowing. In the same year academic rowers of the republic took part at II Sports day of the peoples of the USSR. 12 sportsmen in 5 kinds out of 13 of rowing represented Azerbaijan. Among them were rowers like Yevgeny Amir Shah, Tamerlan Kusov, Gedalio Sadıkhoglu, Vladislav Svetsov. In 1964 commissioning of Mingachevir Kur rowing Olympic Center for training gave impetus to the development of the Azerbaijani rowing. The team of the former Soviet Union on the rowing has been preparing in this base.Since 1970, it was received Mingechevir regatta all-union status. But not only former USSR rowers participated at this tournament. In different years in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, and even the representatives of Cuba, tested in the forces at the Mingechevir regatta. In 2006, it was decided to have reconstruction and restoration works at Mingachevir regatta, and the construction work was carried out by the Ministry of Youth and Sport. On December 9, 2006, the Azerbaijan National Rowing Federation (AMAF) has been established.Now, being the member of the International Rowing Federation (FISA) and the International Canoe Federation (ICF), the AMAF participates in various international competitions, the European and world championships, the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics license tournaments. In addition to Mingachevir rowing base, as well as in a sports club of the Naval Forces the new facilities were built. New sportsmen were selected in view of height, tolerance, physical training and other issues involving athletes through anthropometric model.
