Karate
Karate is a sport formed in the east and performed by hand and foot actions. It is also widely spread in Azerbaijan. In particular, the major forms of karate kyokushin, Gochyu-Ryu of Okinawa are more popular. During the Soviet Union this sport had no special importance but after gaining of independence the formation was accelerated.
The National Karate Federation of Azerbaijan was established in 1994. Since 1997, the National Federation became a full member of WKF (World Karate Federation) which is the world\'s largest karate organization, and unites more than 50 million members of the 180 countries of the world. Organization joined in the EKF (European Karate Federation), too.
National Karate team of Azerbaijan is the most powerful commands of the world and Europe. During last years our karateists several times took part at international tournaments, the European and World championships. At present, the composition of national team consists of repeated World and European champions.
