Being a team  game chovgan competitions  were formed at the mid of 1st millennium of the AD and became popular over the centuries in Azerbaijan, Central Asia, Iran, Turkey, Iraq and neighboring countries. Sources show that in the XII century at the cultural center of the Islamic world, Baghdad  the first international competitions on chovgan was held among the riders of the countries of the Middle East.  The popularity of chovgan game in Azerbaijan since ancient times is proved with facts. During archeological excavations made in Orangala, the picture of chovgan game on lion vessel proves that this game was popular in Beylagan in IX century.
One of the facts that prove that the ancient game of Covqanın Azerbaijan Azerbaijan repeatedly described in the miniatures of the game, giving information on the rules of the written sources. One of other facts proving that chovgan is ancient Azerbaijani game is repeatedly describing of this game in Azerbaijani miniatures, information given about its playing rules. The British played a great role in spreading of chovgan game like other games developed in the East, in remote corners of the world. Thus, this game brought from India to England in XIX century had been developed further and began to spread in   Europe and America based on new rules.
Indeed, at the initiative of the British this game under the polo name for the first time was included in the Olympic Games held in Paris in 1900, and thus, this name was established in the Western civilization.

Diradoyma is one of the ancient games. Under the regulations, the children are divided into 2 groups and draw a circle, and throw draw. The group on which the draw fell gets in the circle. Each of the children put a belt under the feet. Those who stayed outside the circle try to take the belt. And those inside of circle kicks and do not allow to take belt. If those inside of circle kick somebody outside the circle in foot, then those inside of circle have to leave the circle and those outside get in the circle. If outside player could take inside player with hand, he will hand over him to somebody and tries to take the belt left without control. In this case, inside players have to protect both self belts and belts of their fellows. Or, on the contrary, if inside player can catch anyone from outside and take him in, then the groups will have to change places. If any of children from outside can capture the belt he beat the children inside of circle with belt and try to get the belt after removing it from inside of circle. The group capturing all belts will win. Unless inside players beat the one of the outside players with one foot, by keeping at least one foot inside of the circle, the outside players will beat inside players with belt.

From ancient times the camel caravans loaded with black and white raisins moved from east to west and from west to east and became the carriers of material and spiritual values, as well as customs and traditions, national folk games and other information. This kind of Old National People\'s Game Qalaqapı (Qo) is considered as the pearl of the ancient Eastern culture, and in recent years, interest in this culture at the peoples of the world increased and it attracted even more attention. Established in ancient China and adjacent areas Qalaqapı (Qo) has successfully passed the stage of modernization and improvement in Japan and then widely spread all over the world in recent centuries.Qalaqapı (Qo) was played in Azerbaijan not with black and white in ancient times but with black and white raisins. Therefore, sometimes this game is called as the game of raisins, too.Calling of caravan leaders –sarvans black stone, white stone – I want a game partner ...  (not a competitor) and surrounding people’s saying  “let the player win……’ caused an interesting performance and is very sensible, natural and convincing.Blacks start the game... Unlike other table games starting of game by blacks results in putting of black stone on the heart (the sign of heart intimacy, sincerity) of rival  on the game board (now the game board’s size is 19x19). Instead, a few black stones at the first move (since 2003 the 6 stones) to opponent is considered as a kind of balancing forces in the war field. Then turn passes to whites. In principle, players can put their stones at any free cell. However, it is necessary to try to make meaningful and strategic professional options at the first stage of the game. Every step has to have a specific philosophical explanation, the logical continuation. It is interesting that, unlike other games game of amateurs and professionals is possible in qalaqapi. In this case, more powerful one gives dadaboyu to weaker. Thus, in dadaboyu cells up t0 9 black stones can be out (without giving  as advance).Qalaqapı being a  strategic table game reflecting the way of life, the lives of people, also  provide live balance between players during the game. Therefore, in many cases the phrase qalaqapi teaches to live ... sounds in different languages differently. Then it is possible to note that the putting of any stone on board is called not as move but dov. In ther words, players make dov each time to each other, so increasing their strength. As with every game, to make dov in qalapaqi of forbidden ones is not considered as possible. Thus, in this case during the game any of player says “ kov deyil-  it is not kov’ and offers opponent to make move in other cell. Any repetition of the situation in the game is subject to saying Kov deyil rules. It is interesting that in all languages in the international arena it is known as the ko rule.

According to historical facts, zorkhana was systemized 700 years ago ( 7th century) by Puryayi Vali (Mahmud ibn Valiyuddin). It was also noted that zorkhana had more ancient history. The roof of  zorkhana is tomb and the floor is below the ground level. A person who wants to come in the door should bend himself as its door very low. To get in by bending makes the sportsmen modest.
The doors are opened to narrow and low passage going to sardam. Sardam  is a  throne made of wood of one meter or one and half meter. Musician with nice voice sit on sardam and promotes sportsmen with specific music of this game and as usual war like poems selected from  Shahname.
In the middle of zorkhana there is square of octagonal or six pointed form with length of  4 or 5 meters, the width of 4 meter and depth of  1 meter.Zorkhana is square of wrestling of pahvlavans in ancient cities of Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan pahlavan traditions have a national origin, fundamental traditions. In zorkana zourna player group used to play Jangi. Like people\'s ceremonies, as part of the square performances to test strength, to preserve form, to play with stone, beam break, bull neck bend, to juggle belonged not only to Oghuz-Turkic peoples, but also the peoples of the world, and considered as dynamic, dramatic games. Zorkhana, wrestling folk performances after the next development stages of spring, Novruz ceremonies turned to the type of performance, has become a profession. Like the expression of Azerbaijani soul in rich folklore samples the image of pahlavan was presented in original, as symbol of unlimited power. Presenting the image of pahlavan as invincible, undefeated had not just an ordinary character. Pahlavan was a real character formed from the popular spirit of the nation.During the Bolshevik Revolution was Zorkhana was one of the traditions which are exposed to repression. The Bolsheviks closed zorkhana and put an end to this tradition, having not knowing the essence of zorkhana and wrongly accepted it as religion-related.

In game by drawing the losing man will bend the back and others players stay in row for three or four meters away (6 people),  and each of them jump over the back of bent person and each time they repeat following words and observe their sayings:In one  - Anzali hay Anzali. In two - Han akbariIn third – Cock crowed: qu-qulu-qu!In four – hip is pressed. In five – climb on throne.(In this case, a player sits at the back of lying man and asks: - To ride or get down?)The bent person says- Ride or get down! The game still goes on.In six – Don’t touch with hand, top and head. In seven - Tayal kecherler,In eight  - the cap will be put.In nine everyone rides on the back of bent person and the ear of the man getting down is pulled. If someone does not observe it during the game will have to replace the “bent” person.
