Gabala cityThe distance up to Baku: 225 km Area: 1548.6 km2 Means of transport: Gabala-Baku bus The most famous historical and cultural monument of Gabala region is the ancient city of Gabala, the name of which is referred in the written sources (Pliniy and others) at the first century BC. Gabala city with over 1800 years of age had been more than 600 years as the capital of Caucasian Albania. The ruins of the ancient city are located 15 km from the regional center, between the Garachay and Jovurlu River. In Gabala region tobacco, wheat and barley are grown, cocoon is stored. Gabala city is located on the right bank of Drmiraparanchay. Tikanlıchay, Qumchay, Demiraparanchay and Vandam rivers flow through this region. There are hundreds of historical and cultural monuments in the region: Albanian temple in the village Amili of IV-VIII centuries, mosque in the village of Bum of XIX century, Ustaszhan castle in in the village of Bayramkokha of IX-XIV century, mausoleum of the XVII century in the village of Shafili, Shıkhbaba pir of XVI century in the village of Hamzali, Komrad pir at the peak of mountain Komrad, Nic, Haji Garib mosque in Nij village and the residence of Bolu bey of XIX century, mausoleums of Sheikh Badraddin and Sheikh Mansur of XV century in the village Hazra. There were human settlement in Yalovlu Mountains near the village of Nij in III-I centuries BC. Iron knives, daggers, swords, bronze rings, gold earrings, mill stones and other objects were found here. In upland and lowland regions in the north of Azerbaijan the archaeological culture of that period is referred in science to as the culture of Yaloylu. There are defensive ancient tower in the city of Gabala (IX-XI centuries), the XVIII century mosque and the mausoleum of Imam Ali (XVIII-XIX centuries), Juma Mosque, as well a big historical and ethnographic museum. There are recreational areas, hotel in the region.
